Exclusive Instawalk at Experimentarium

I was invited to an exclusive instawalk at Experimentarium a few days ago with around 50-60 other instagramers. Here I saw a few familiar faces from the Danish Instagram community. I have been to some instawalks over the years so I know who belongs to which Instagram profiles and it is always exciting to see how other instagramers gets their perfect shots. Since I have not been to any instawalks for over 9 months, I was really intrigued to get some really great photos from Experimentarium. In the end I got some great shots from their Helix Staircase and as some of you might know I have already shared one photo from this place on my Instagram. My plan is to share more photos from this place with my Instagram.

Fun fact: This was actually not my first instawalk with Experimentarium. In fact this was actually my third one. The first one happened in their temporary location at Papirøen and the second one was while their new building was being built.

Introduction time

Their newly renovated science centre opened in January 26, 2017, meaning they finally returned home after two and a half year building process. Over the years they are perhaps most well-known for their soap bubble shows and who can possibly hate soap bubbles? What I like about this place is that kids from elementary schools have the possibility to learn about science and technology in a fun way, which you might not learn by just reading a book. However, Experimentarium is not just for kids, because even adults can learn about new stuff and I can tell you that I had a great time even though I have an engineering master degree in design and innovation.

I can ensure you that you will get impressed the moment you step inside Experimentarium, because you cannot avoid to see the very impressive copper Helix Staircase that looks like our DNA. If you like taking photos you can easily spend a lot of time taking photos of this staircase alone.

Of course there is more to Experimentarium than just their staircase. I also really liked The Labyrinth of Light, but for some reason I forgot to get inside The Tunnel of Senses, which is likely a lot of fun and has a lot of photo possibilities.

@somewhereincopenhagen trying to take a selfie (I think)

Inside The Labyrinth of Light you can find many fun activities. One of them is the colour columns with light. Here you can get a great selfie if you are into that, but otherwise you can sort of create your own artwork by mixing red, green and blue light. I will likely share some photos from this on my Instagram. You can give the columns different colours or you can give them the same colour.

@wistphotos created this

There are many fun activities inside Experimentarium and my recommendation is to visit it with an open mind and when you finally get inside you should just be playful and explore as much as possible. I do not know when, but I will likely return one day, since I did not play with a lot of the stuff. As far as I know there will be new exhibitions in the near future, so there will be something to look forward to.

Lastly I want to share a few words about some of the instagramers I met. I have met most of them from previous instawalks and what they do not know is that I follow them on some of my secret accounts despite not following them on my main account, but there are of course a few I follow with my main account.

@siwaldershvile has a very artistic and clean expression and other instagramers often use her as their model. Despite taking photos of many different things she tends to follow a concurrent unique style that is hard to describe.

@copenhagenbykat is a very underrated instagramer (just like myself :P). She takes many photos from the street level and manages to turn a boring environment into a piece or art.

@insta_justitia_1479 has a thing for the sky and reflections, and uses it to her advantage.

@katjamartens07 has a silent style, which is very relaxing to follow.

@wistphotos is a young talented instagramer with great skills. His account will likely become big one day.

@pernille_franch is also an underrated instagramer. She takes many great photos of Copenhagen from day to night.

@anneoesterby has a very minimalistic and ‘white’ style that is very well-received and inspiring.

@vikkeview is an expert in finding at shapes in her environment.

@ursulabach is another instagramer taking many great photos. You are just overwhelmed no matter what she posts.

@yilmazkbh has the power to change the mood of a shot into something more unique and aesthetic.

@somewhereincopenhagen has a very interesting feed. I think this was my first time seeing the person behind this amazing account. Looking through her photos seems like they are telling many exciting stories.

If time allows it and if it makes sense, I will possibly share some more information about Experimentarium and the above mentioned instagramers.

Fashion Hong Kong (Copenhagen Fashion Week AW17)

Whenever Copenhagen Fashion Week takes place, I always explore the possibilities to attend the different events throughout the capital.

Black laced dress

Fashion Weeks are pretty dull if you do not attend any event, which is why I will do almost anything to attend fashion shows. I mean you get to see new pieces from the fashion industry and maybe get inspired. Luckily I got on the guest list of one of the many fashion shows during Copenhagen Fashion Week (January 31 – February 2) and in the end I attended the fashion show: Fashion Hong Kong. I was indeed lucky to get on the guest list, since the audience included several Danish celebrities and leading figures from the Danish fashion industry.

Turning point

If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed that I already shared a photo from the event and I will likely share a few more edited photos from the show through my Instagram in the near future. I do not know about you, but in the past couple of weeks my Instagram feed has been full of fashion related updates from different cities across the world. I would like to attend more fashion shows in the future, so if you know how I can attend the bigger shows I would like to hear from you. In exchange I can maybe take an artistic photo of you as the ones you can see on my Instagram.

Black and white never disappoints

Copenhagen Fashion Week is one of my favourite events in my hometown, because through fashion we define ourselves and stand out from the crowd. This time I got more excited since I got to see the work of several Hong Kong designers. I was hoping I could exchange a few words with the designers before or after the show, since I am a Hong Kong Chinese born in Copenhagen and it is always fun to chat with Hong Kongers in Denmark.

Red Queen

The setting was Thorvaldsen Museum and my favourite look of the night was the red dress you can see above. Sadly I did not get a closer look of this style, but it was definitely the highlight of the show. In general red creates attention and is really attractive to look at, so if you really want to stand out you know what to do. In a city like Copenhagen it would be really refreshing to wear red since everyone is wearing black most of the time and yeah I am guilty too. Depending on where you live, red is a very good contrast, so you can easily get some aesthetic shots if you wear red clothing.

The truth is, I wanted to share most of the different designs with this blog post, but sadly most of my photos are very blurry.

The Day Donald Trump Got Elected (Cheung Chau edition)

When the election took place I was in Hong Kong enjoying the city as much as possible, but I still followed the news occasionally. Before you read further I just want you to know that I am not a Trump supporter, but with this post I just want to share how I experienced the election while I was in Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong we got some of the first polls before I went to bed (November 8, 2016). What I saw surprised me a little, because Donald Trump was actually leading. He was not leading by much, but he was still leading. I did not think much about it since it was just the beginning and it could easily change, so afterwards I checked my phone for a little while and then went to sleep.

When I woke up (November 9, 2016) I saw another poll and Donald Trump has increased his lead and I was like: “Are you serious? What is happening?”. I also looked through my Facebook and Instagram and there were many reactions from around the world and most of them were shocked about what they were witnessing. However, it was actually quite easy for me to get the result out of my head, since I did not want it to ruin my day.

I spent most of the day in Cheung Chau and I have never been there before, even though I have been in Hong Kong around 20 times I believe (crazy right?). Before I went to Cheung Chau I had some breakfast/lunch at a dim sum restaurant and there were a TV broadcasting TVB News with the recent results. His lead increased again and here I realised that Donald Trump has won several important states one after one and he will likely win, but Hillary could still make it. The only problem was that it looked really bad for Hillary Clinton, since there were only around 9 states left.

Then I took the MTR to Central Station and went to Star Ferry Pier. It is quite easy to find it when you use exit A at Central Station. I boarded a ferry and was heading to Cheung Chau. Please note that you have the option to choose a fast or slow ferry, but there is of course a price difference. The ferry to Cheung Chau was fairly comfortable. It was not dangerous, but at some point it would shake a lot. It felt like strong waves was hitting us every second, but the people around me was just sleeping.

I actually did not do anything significantly in Cheung Chau, but it was great to explore a location I have never been to. Most of the time I just took photos around their beaches. Sadly the weather was very grey, but I might edit some of the photos and share them on Instagram one day. My plan was to visit the Cheung Po Tsai Cave, but it was too windy and I did not felt like going since many has told me that it is just “a bunch of rocks”.

Before I headed to the ferry I bought a Yakult slush ice from a local store and some people mentioned that Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump and congratulated him. Donald Trumps victory is reality!

Everyone at Cheung Chau was talking about the result and about the fact that “sor lo” has won (“sor lo” means foolish man).

While I was waiting for the ferry there was a TV broadcasting Donald Trumps press conference about his victory. I looked at the people around me and they all looked with fear.

There were many different comments from the locals in Hong Kong about Donald Trump being the next president. Some people were just laughing about the result and could not believe what actually happened. I even saw a woman crying when the result were announced, but honestly I do not know if she was crying because of the election. Below I have shared some of the comments from Hong Kongers:

“No, no, no this is bad.”

“We are screwed no matter who wins.”

“Hillary lacks power and how can she possibly lose to this sor lo.”

“Mom, did sor lo really win?”

“Oh no Trump is going to attack China and thereby Hong Kong. We are doomed”

“Luckily my family do not live in USA. I only have some relatives in Canada.”

“Well he is their problem, not ours.”

“We are doomed, we can’t move to another planet.”

Here are some of the comments I saw through social media:

“Anyone shaking?”

“WTF USA.”

“What is going on USA?”

“If Trump can seriously win the PRESIDENCY OF THIS NATION, I don’t want to see a job description with experience required ever again.”

“Donald Trump is a reminder that you should just apply for that job you want even if you don’t have the experience.”

“I was expecting to wake up to the first female president ever.”

“Luckily I don’t live in the US anymore.”

“Are you kidding me?”

“My day has been ruined.”

“A crazy country elected a crazy man.”

“Well how about moving to Canada?”

Donald Trump surely knows how to create attention to himself and some would claim he is very self-centered. With only a few more days until Donald Trump enters the White House, I really hope he is not as crazy as he sounds and as he has acted. Looking through his Twitter account can be very frustrating, so I do not know what to expect from Donald Trump, but we will have to see.

Trump won because he is a big marketing scheme. You can compare him with a reality star without political experience. In other words he is an outsider in an election with voters desperately asking for changes. Maybe that is exactly why he is the next president, because people want changes! Donald Trump has expressed many big changes and that could be the reason that his supporters just ignore all his scandals, because he wants to fight the system. You have to remember that the scandals he is involved in would have been the end of any other politician.

Doesn’t matter what the press says. Doesn’t matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.

This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences.

When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree besides the river of truth, and tell the whole world: no you move.

With all said – maybe people dislike the result, but that is always the case when it comes to elections. You might be frightened about what will happen after the 20th January 2016 and there are already articles about Trump ruining important political traditions.  Just remember that there will be people around him giving him advice to rule the country in the right direction even though he seem like a mad man. Who knows he might surprise us in a positive way. I just believe there will or there must be someone close to him looking after the Uniteds States and the world.

I hope this blog post makes sense. I might sound very naive, but I hope you received my message. Nothing has happened yet and we have to believe in a better future no matter how hard it is.

Christmas Time

With only a few more days until Christmas I hope everyone is full of Christmas spirit. Also are you finished with your Christmas shopping? 🙂

In Denmark the 24th of December is the most important day where family gathers together and celebrate Christmas. It is also the day we exchange Christmas presents and usually they are opened after dinner. The feeling of having your loved ones opening your package is just indescribable.

I believe most of you have been through a lot to get the right Christmas presents, decorations and foods. With only a few more days until Christmas I hope you managed to get the things you needed, but I also want to say that it is ok if you did not get what you were supposed to buy. Honestly I have not been out a lot compared to the other years, because you can really tell that people are stressed and that Christmas is nearing.

In these days we need to get the last presents and foods for the big celebration and I can understand that you can be more stressed and grumpy than usual. But is Christmas really about getting the right presents and foods? Is Christmas about being stressed and grumpy?

I admit it is easier to be a kid before and during Christmas, because you just have to wait and receive presents. Kids do not need to plan their month to see when they have time to go out and buy the right stuff. You also do not have to consider what to buy and what to eat. I just want to say Christmas is not about getting the best gifts and it is certainly not a competition about giving the best and most expensive presents to the people you hold dear. Christmas is about being with your loved ones and spend time with the people that are important to you. You may have gone through a year without spending much time with your family, so use this opportunity to have a warm cozy time with the people you love.

Remember another year has passed and everybody have been busy with several stuff and we may have forgotten about the people around us. Use Christmas as an opportunity to appreciate what we have and cherish the people around us. Not everything can be exchanged for money.

Life is not about getting and having, it is about giving and being.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

聖誕快樂!

Glædelig jul!

Next month I will also make blog posts about Hong Kong.

Burger with Licorice!?

Burger with licorice!? Licorice in burgers!?

Who got the crazy idea about putting licorice in burgers?

In this blog post I will talk about the experience I had with a licorice burger and I will also briefly comment on what my blog will be about since this is my first ‘real’ blog post. I also want to clarify that my blog just happened to start with a food post, but I will touch on many topics and I hope you will enjoy.

The burger

In Denmark we call licorice for “lakrids”. Licorice are basically black candies you can buy everywhere in Denmark. I am not really a big fan of licorice and I rarely eat candies, but a licorice burger sounds so weird that I had to try one. Licorice was part of my childhood even though I preferred wine gums, so when I found out that there is a licorice burger in Copenhagen I just had to try it no matter what.

Grillen Burgerbar and Johan Bülow (The Licorice King) is behind the burger, and as far as I know you can only get it this month (December 2016). The burger is called “Black Goat” and is a beef burger with raw powder deep fried goat cheese and onions caramelised in licorice syrup. Moreover, you get the burger buns with mayonnaise.

It is actually also the first time I go to a Grillen Burgerbar restaurant and two of their burgers seemed especially good, but I visited them to try their new licorice burger. When I got inside the restaurant it felt really cosy and calm, and since I have an engineering master degree in design and innovation I am very observational when I enter a new place. The interior reminds me of some sort of a manhood, but there were many girls in the restaurant and the interior is not something that scares customers away.

I was actually really worried about the giant goat cheese and when I finally got the burger I was a little afraid – afraid that I might not like the burger. With the first few bites there was a small taste of licorice. At first the licorice seemed sweet, but the aftertaste of licorice was a tad stronger. After a few more bites the licorice taste sort of disappeared.

My suggestions

The goat cheese has a strong taste, but maybe it is just me because I have never been a fan of goat cheese. I ordered the burger because I wanted to try a new experiment and I wanted to taste the ‘whole package’. Personally I would remove the goat cheese and maybe replace it with something else. It could be another kind of cheese, maybe two layers of cheese, but who knows it might kill the licorice flavour entirely.

Could bacon maybe work? Well many damn guys wants bacon in almost everything. Honestly I just see it as pieces of fats. I am not a bacon guy, but I think this burger represents something strong, so maybe it could be an idea to add something with strong and heavy flavours. But again it might kill the licorice flavour and then you have ruined the idea.

It was hard for me to finish the whole goat cheese, so I had to fight with it and in the end i used fork and knife. When we left the place I still had the goat cheese aftertaste (yeah I really hate it). I think it disappeared around half an hour till one hour, but again guys I am no goat cheese lover to begin with.

My review

Honestly the burger looked really small when we got our food, but I got full. Besides the burger I also had a soda, rustic fries and chilli mayo. I also did not had any extra fillings in the burger even though I wanted to, because I wanted to see how ‘crazy’ their idea is.

Our waiter actually asked about my experience with the burger, since it was quite new (I was there 3rd of December). I basically said the same thing I have shared with you besides my suggestions. He told me he has not tried it himself yet, but others customers could not taste the licorice at all.

Personally I find it surprisingly good. It is a great and fun way to utilise licorice. Remember this was my experience and if you happen to be in Copenhagen and want to try this you should hurry, because you can only get it this month (December 2016).

My blog

Honestly guys I want to go different directions with this blog and I doubt it will be a lot about food, but occasionally I will share some food experiences with you guys.

With this blog I want to share different stories with you guys. Hopefully my blog can be used to inspire you. I guess you could say my blog is about lifestyle and it will include topics like Instagram, social media, life in Copenhagen, exhibitions, recent society trends, being Asian in Denmark, photo spots, social media influencers, travel, fashion shows, smartphone apps etc.

With a Master Degree (Engineering in Design and Innovation) I really hope I can talk a lot about user experiences with different products and services.

Please follow me on instagram and like my facebook page – i will also share posts about great Instagram accounts with this blog and it could very well be you. 🙂
